Taxa Studied: Invertebrate Animals
Techniques Employed: Degenerate PCR, Quantitative PCR (qPCR), Sanger Sequencing, 454 Pyrosequencing, Solexa (Illumina) Sequencing, Bioinformatics/Sequence Analysis, In Situ Hybridization, Antibody Staining, RNA interference(RNAi), Sectioning for Electron Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Epifluoresence Microscopy, Confocal Microscopy, Other, miRNA, LNA and miRNAmimics
Research Description: Our aim is to understand how is regulated the oogenesis in insects. As a model we used the cockroach Blattella germanica, an hemimetabolan insect with panoistic ovaries, whose vitellogenesis and oocyte growth are regulated by juvenile hormone. Now we are focoused in the role of miRNA regulating oogenesis and specially how they can participate regulating the genes that determine polarity in insect oocytes
