Research Description: |
Our group works on the field of Evolution of Insect Metamorphosis Our main research interest is to understand the mechanisms (especially endocrine derived) regulating metamorphosis in the basal hemimetabolous insect Blattella germanica, compare them with those operating in more modified, holometabolous insects (like Drosophila melanogaster, Bombyx mori and Tribolium castaneum), and then to infer the mechanisms underlying the evolution from hemimetaboly (gradual metamorphosis) to holometaboly (sudden metamorphosis). |
