Research Description: |
My primary interest is ageing. I currently have three main projects running. 1) Characterising the Extra-cellular SOD in insects. Primarily using molecular techniques in Drosophila, This is expanding into a phylogenetic project and a cross species study to understand exactly how the Cu Zn SODs work and have evolved. 2) Studying the molecular basis of socially induced changes in lifespan in Bumble Bees. This is a NERC funded project in collaboration with Andrew Bourke at UEA. 3) I am also involved in a project looking at trade-offs in immunity ageing and neurodegeneration in a Drosophila/paristoid model of selected immunity. |
